The laser process is uniquely qualified to perform two and three dimensional micromachining of complex patterns in a variety of materials. The pattern shown here was machinined in Aluminum, and with precise depth control. Laser parameters, such as pulse width, pulse rate, peak power, and pulse overlap, can all be manipulated independently for real-time control of the machining process. Laser wavelength can be selected to match the material to be processed for best-fit absorption. The specifications attainable will vary with material characteristics.
The advantages of laser processing also include:
- Quick-turn
- Rapid prototyping
- Flexibility
- No tooling required
