co2 laser processing

Laser scribing of ceramic
A multiple-head CO2 laser system in operation.
Description

CO2 laser processing is not new. However, ALT has brought this mature technology to a new level by customizing our systems to provide superior beam quality and improved performance. The result is increased accuracy and productivity, and superior part quality.  Typical applications include ceramic scribing, drilling, and custom machining, and high speed machining of organics and sheet metals, producing gaskets, filters, stencils, and complex patterns.

Materials
91% Opaque, 96% Alumina, 99% Alumina, Berylium Oxide, Transfer Tape, Aluminum Nitride .005 Thick, Aluminum Nitride > .005 Thick, Sapphire, Quartz, Fused Silica, Silicon Rubber & Variations of Rubber, Vinyl, Teflon, Polyimide, Duroid, Kapton, Adhesives, Polyurethane, Mylar, Nylon, Epoxy Preforms, Plastics, Polycarbonates, FR-4, G-10, Ferrite, Stainless Steel < .065", Cold Rolled Steel < .065", Soft Steel < .065", Nickel < .065", Lithium Niobate, Serializing of All Materials
Support Processes
  • Anti-slag coating - to minimize attachment of laser generated residue to substrate surfaces.
  • High temperature annealing - for stress relief and improved hole adhesion.
  • Ball milling - to break sharp edges for edge metallization applications.
  • Optical alignment - utilizes high resolution cameras for precise alignment in post metallization processing.
  • Electronic data transfer - the ALT modem allows rapid transmission of drawing files to save time and reduce error potential.
