CO2 Laser Technology

Technology

Carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are high-powered, continuous-wave lasers used for a range of micro-fabrication applications such as patterning, scribing, drilling, slotting, stripping, skiving, creating controlled depth cavities, and other customized treatments. CO2 offer the most efficient way to produce highly accurate, intricate parts without expensive tooling.

While CO2 Lasers are a mature technology, our exclusive processes, coupled with technical expertise makes the difference in speed, accuracy, and final product quality.

Process

CO2 laser processing consists of micro-fabrication of materials in small-to-micro dimensions. Depending on material and application, we select the laser source with the most suitable focusing optics.

Hybrid technology applications often require specific profiles matching the size of the specified circuits. CO2 laser technology is well suited to these tasks because the small area of focus allows micro-processing to be done accurately, rapidly, and economically. ALT's integrated image processing methodology further optimizes the process, adding greater efficiency.

Support Processes

  • Post-processing - after materials have been metalized
  • Anti-slag coating - to minimize attachment of laser generated residue to substrate surfaces
  • High temperature annealing - for stress relief and improved hole adhesion
  • Ball milling - to break sharp edges for edge metallization applications
  • Optical alignment - utilizing high-resolution cameras for precise alignment in post metallization processing
